Luxury gifts for newlyweds

capital hotel afternoon tea

The other day, I had a surprise arrive through my postbox. With my ongoing habit of online shopping, I wasn’t sure if I had purchased something or not. To my delight it was a white box with silver embossed writing that said ‘TRULY – Luxury Gift Experiences’. What a first impression, I almost didn’t want to open it because I wanted to keep it in tact. The box was tied so beautifully with soft fabric black ribbon. It arrived with a personal hand written note, the extra effort and personal touches go a long way. So inside the box was scented lavender tissue paper and a letter saying that I have a traditional afternoon tea for 2 at the Capital Hotel in Knightsbridge.truly experienceFirst reaction – wow! Now this isn’t even for any occasion and I was already this excited. Just imagine this gift for a wedding? So luxurious before I even attended the afternoon tea. It got me interested in finding out more about TRULY. The CEO and co-founder, Jack, began the company because of his own experience. He needed to buy a wedding present for two of his closest friends. He wanted to get them something they could share and enjoy, and not just something that would sit on a shelf, gathering dust. So he called up a few Michelin-starred restaurants and asked if he could prepay for tasting menus. The answer was ‘no’ and the closest he got was a ‘memo’ for £200. Frustrated by the lack of the high-end gift experiences, TRULY was born.
capital-hotel-interiorOn Saturday, Mark and I took a visit to to the Capital Hotel. I had never been before so I was looking forward to it. The tea room was a beautiful petite room with a pink theme. The pink colours were among the wallpaper, curtains, chairs and even the rose on the tables was pink. It was so nicely done that it looked better than it sounds. The level of service was exceptional, the staff ensured we were comfortable and were always providing us with more drinks, top ups or food if we wanted any. We had the option of having champagne with our tea, a bonus. (We didn’t opt for this as we were both driving and have a rule of no drinks whilst driving – maybe the next time we’ll try the champagne 😉 ). mark at afternoon teaWe browsed the variety of teas the menu had to offer, there is something there to suit everyone’s individual taste. After our tea arrived, a tiered stand with sweet delights and sandwiches arrived. Mark and I are the opposite, I enjoy sandwiches the most, whereas he enjoys the sweet delights. The types of delicious sandwiches included:
Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese Bagel
Mackerel Pate & Cucumber on Tomato Bread
Egg Mayonnaise & Cress served on Wholemeal
Honey Roast Ham & Mustard Roll

finger sandwichesThe selection of sweet delights included:
Lemon Drizzle Cup Cake
Strawberry & Elderflower Trifle
Hibiscus & Lime Macaroons
Treacle Tart, English Raspberries
White Chocolate and Passion Fruit Mousse

I opted for the plain ones with clotted cream and couldn’t eat the other one. It’s surprising how filling tea, finger sandwiches and cakes really are together.

A TRULY experience is a more personal gift than money and more memorable too – Mark

raj at afternoon teaWe discussed how this would be a perfect gift for some of our engaged couples who are getting married next year. With the options ranging from Michelin lunches, whisky tasting, afternoon tea, we are certain that we can find a gift from Give Truly that our friends would enjoy. Instead of giving them gifts, just for the sake of buying a gift, giving them a truly luxurious gift is one that they won’t forget! Hi Chris

The tea, sandwiches and scones were my favourite. Mark particularly enjoyed the sweet treats. I saw another couple there enjoying the champagne as part of their afternoon tea 🙂

You must try it out one day!
