On Friday 10th October, I was lucky enough to attend the wedding blog awards held at the Savoy. Is it a bit weird that I’m blogging about the event without actually winning an award? Nicht! I went knowing that I wouldn’t win which is fine (I don’t want sympathy – my blog is slowly blossoming!), I was excited to be in a room full of wedding professionals and wedding bloggers who I aspire to.
When Mark and I arrived, we headed towards the Abraham Lincoln room where the awards were held. Upon arriving, we were welcomed with some members of the Wedding Magazine team followed by our complimentary champagne. All night canapes were being served and usually I’m the first one digging into food but I resisted as I didn’t want to get anything down my dress! We were quite shy at first as it’s our first wedding industry event so not knowing many people we took our time to start socialising and saying hi to people.
First was the beautiful Tamryn aka the Candid Apple and lovely Caoimhe who both write for Love my Dress – the double award winning blog! I had first met Tamryn a week before at Brides the Show where I tapped her on the shoulder and asked if she was infact the Candid Apple. Luckily it was her, otherwise, I would have politely apologised and ran away ever so quickly! It was nice to discuss the different blog niches, in which she has written about here. I was so pleased to hear that Caoimhe recognised my blog and said she had visited it. Mark quickly said – “So you’re the one visitor she had” – cheeky thing!
Soon after, the awards began and ended in a flash hosted by Mark Francis. I thought he was hilarious and perfect as the host, he really is what he is on the TV. Mark and I were lucky to get a quick snap with him before he left.
The first with Nova from Nu Bride winning the award for Best Big Day Inspiration and her speech was so memorable. With why she began the blog and mentioned that there wasn’t anyone who looked like her in wedding magazines or blogs. At that point, I raised my glass and shouted It’s True! I understand that feeling too well. Not all asian women have asian weddings, many often wear a white wedding dress. If white models are used in Asian Bridal/Wedding magazines, then why can’t asian models be used for wedding magazines and blogs? I digress, everyone in the room was overjoyed once she won!
Kat from Rock ‘n roll bride won the award for best alternative wedding blog – no surprise there, I love her blog and the niche she fills. I also enjoyed her speech that mentioned how she hated the wedding industry but now she’s being rewarded by it, so it’s a full circle. I managed to get a chance to speak to Kat and get a cheeky photograph with her. I admire her a lot so it was a good chance to have a general chat, introduce myself and say hi and try not to be such a fangirl.
After the awards we carried on chatting away to others in the room. All evening I had been smiling away to people but didn’t get a chance to chat to them properly, time went by so quickly.
I went over to congratulate Charlotte from Fizzy Bunting on winning the award in our category, I saw her earlier but didn’t recognise her. I loved her outfit for the awards, it was so trendy and on point! Then I got a chance to chat to Alex from the Great British Wedding along with her mum, we had a right old natter before I had to get a cupcake. They were made by the lovely Elizabeth Solaru, I finally saw her cakes at Brides the Show and they tasted as amazing as they looked!
I also managed to chat with the other nominees in my category – Alison from Mrspandp.com who brought Sangeeta as her plus one, and Karen from Smashing the Glass with her husband. These were photo opportunities right here. I didn’t however, get a chance to meet Sarah Christopher from Juno and Joy! Next time!
Mark spent most of the night with his new best friend Mr Nu Bride chatting about, believe it or not, weddings. The same with the hilarious Matt. All evening everyone would ask if we were married and I kept telling them no he won’t marry me! This made a lot of people laugh, poor Mark, he’s used to it by now though…
A few snaps of my make up done by Preeti from Fabublush– everyone had been complimenting her work and praised her highly, as did I, of course. I felt like a grown up haha!
A quick selfie with Lester Gethings
Checking out the Wedding Magazine goodie bag which was awesome. I’d like to thank Wedding Magazine for hosting a fantastic night, all their hard work certainly paid off! And a BIG thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate and vote for SWB. I really appreciate your support and with that, I hope that SWB is becoming a wonderful resource for multicultural and fusion weddings.
