An Australian Wedding

I am delighted to share with you all Emma and Ben’s beautiful wedding all the way from Australia, I asked Emma some questions about their big day.

How did you meet?

Ben and I met when I was 17 and working in a clothes retail store and he came in as a customer. He had a girlfriend at the time and I was still in school so nothing happened immediately. He used to send his Nanna in to check up on me! We got together nearly a year later when circumstances were different.

How did Ben propose?

Ben proposed to me on a private yacht under the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. He had designed the engagement ring and had to wait to present it to me in the boat cabin for fear of dropping it in the ocean!

How was planning the wedding?

Great fun! Ben and I were on the same page the entire time which made it very easy. I didn’t have any preconceived ideas of what I wanted so we just ticked off things as we got to them. The venue was first. I wanted a winery, Ben wanted the beach, and a friend recommended Morning Star Estate which had both! We loved the area so much we now live right near there.
Hardest part of planning the wedding was the invite list and table placement. Best part was just the excitement and build up to the day and all of the little things like menu tasting, rehearsal and writing your vows.

Did you always know that you wanted a wedding outside?

When we first starting planning, we didn’t really mind either way, but when we found our venue, they had a beautiful outdoor wedding area that took advantage of the views and there was no other option for us once we saw that! They did have a chapel as a back up if it rained, but we got lucky on the day.

What was the highlight of your wedding?

Seeing each other when I came into view at the top of the isle. The most amazing feeling, tingles all over the body.

Are there any specific Australian wedding traditions?

No traditions unique to Australia that I can think of. Each wedding is unique and you pick and choose what you want. We didn’t see each other the night before, I spent it with my family and maid of honor, Ben was with his groomsmen. The boys all played golf in the morning before the wedding.
Many of our guests stayed down there the night so it was great to get up and have breakfast with them all the morning after.
