Chicago Filipino Wedding

Watching this wedding video filled with me such joy, hearing Paula’s mother’s speech was so sweet. Paula and William are from New England, but met in college in California. Paula’s ancestry is derived from the Philippines, Spain, and China, and William’s family is from Poland and Germany on his father’s side and British Isles on his mother’s side. They met on a community service alternative spring break during college.

The proposal
For the proposal, William decorated their Chicago apartment with orange balloons. It was around Christmas and Paula’s birthday. When she returned to their apartment, Paula says she noticed their normal Christmas music wasn’t playing. Stevie Wonder’s “You are the Sunshine of my Life” replaced all of the seasonal tunes but she didn’t think much of it. Then, William asked Paula to come to the window where he had strung Christmas lights that said: “Marry me?” At first, Paula said she thought it was a train but after she figured it out, William got down on one knee and asked Paula to spend the rest of her life with him!

The Dress & groom’s outfit
Paula bought her dress at Macy’s Bridal Suite on State Street. Paula’s mother and her future mother, sisters, and aunt-in law help her pick it out. It was ultimately a combination of different Augusta Jones styles. Paula also wore a cathedral veil for the ceremony. William’s dress was a black tuxedo from J. Crew.
