Today on Secret Wedding Blog, we have the beautiful wedding of Dave and Claire at Stirk House, photographed by David Stubbs photography. Dave and Claire met on a student night out in a local bar in their honeymoon 11 years ago. Their wedding theme is a combination of vintage and travel. This wedding has a Q&A feature so you can get the bride and groom’s perspective of the big day!
Do you have any stories about something that happened on or defined your wedding?
The wedding video created by Dave (Groom), Dave (Best Man) and Michael (Usher) was played after the speeches and was a complete surprise for both Claire (Bride) and the wedding party/guests. It re-enacted the moment of when we met, which was followed by a Robin Hood music video with Michael playing the part of Claire.
What was the inspiration of your wedding?
We wanted a theme which was simple and elegant, yet portrayed who we were as a couple. Our travelling theme was easy to pick as we love to travel. 6 years ago we travelled for 12 months exploring South East Asia, Australia & New Zealand, and for our honeymoon we are taking another 12 months out of work to travel Mongolia, China, India and South America. For our table plan we therefore used a vintage style canvas world map and made vintage style luggage labels from the countries we had previously visited for the seating arrangements. The cards on the tables were then of photos from specific sites and landmarks of these countries we had visited and the place settings were designed into little luggage labels. It was also a no-brainer to have a classic VW Camper and VW Beetle for our transport as it blended the travel and vintage theme perfectly. My wedding dress, the flowers and room deco were all chosen to have a simple but elegant feel.
What do you think made your wedding particularly unique, quirky, alternative? How did you do things differently to the norm?
In leu of wedding favours we donated to CLIC Sargent (Children & Young People with Cancer) and Prostate Cancer Org – both personally and professionally these charities are extremely close to us and we felt it only right to donate to them and provide the pin badges to our guests to show support. Ladies were given CLIC Sargent Pinbadges and Men were given Prostate Cancer Pin badges.
What was your favourite part or things about your wedding?
We enjoyed every single minute of it! It was important to us to have a day that we would always look back on and remember that it was full of love, fun and laughter. Not just for us, but also for all the people that are close to us, and now that we have received our wedding photos it clearly reminds us that we really did have the best day of our lives from the beginning of the day to the last dance of the night, and one that we will never forget.
What three tips would you give a bride-to-be?
1. Plan ahead and book the big things early (photographer, venue, flowers etc) – the good ones are booked up pretty quickly!
2. Relax and let people help – If there is a hiccup don’t worry, everyone wants you to have and will ensure that you have the best day of your life and so will try their very best to help make this happen.
3. On the day – Step back and ENJOY – This is it. Make sure you have a few minutes to yourself throughout the day to embrace your wedding day as everything is all booked, so take a step back and enjoy your day as it all comes together.
