Secret Wedding Blog

Looking back at 2015

Raj Dharar

Happy New Year all, hope you have all had a lovely festive season with family and friends. I took time away from to spend time with my loved ones. It was nice to be offline for a while but also made me rather excited to get back to blogging. I’ve cleared space in my spare bedroom, sat at my desk with a candle and my laptop – bliss.

The New Job

Just like majority of other people, I also like to reflect on the year gone past. 2015 has been of my best years yet. During the middle of February I began searching for a new job. I had been at my previous job for almost 3.5 years and was desperate to start a new chapter in my life. I found my new job, which I love, after a couple of interviews. It turned out so well and I instantly got on really well with my new boss. As the job was in a small market town, Hungerford, it meant this was almost 3 hours away from my home town in Cambridgeshire.

After 6 weeks from when I started my job, I had the opportunity to go to Ibiza – here I am on the beach – rather happy!

I began searching West Berkshire for places to live. I was so excited. I had moved away from home for University, but that was ages ago now and it was time to feel like a grown up again. I found Newbury and immediately fell in love. It was so nice. The greenery and the shops (my favourite of course) stood out to me. It’s full of gorgeous pubs and beautiful scenery. Moving to Newbury during Easter meant that I was able to enjoy summer in my new town. Here’s a few snaps from my instagram.

The Flat

The final thing to do was to find a new home. This was proving difficult because houses and flats were being snapped up during the week and I could only travel down to Newbury at the weekend. Eventually I came across a courtyard of 4 brand new flats. I view one which used to be a stable, it was so cute but a tad small. I then looked at the other 3, all slightly larger with parking I fell in love. I knew one of these flats were the one – so it was decided to live in the one with a cellar – it used to be a pub after all!

The Blog achievements

2015 has been a great year for Secret Wedding Blog. While I can find it difficult to balance work, life, and blog, I still enjoy producing content for you all. The following achievements during last year is a great reminder of why I started this blog and will continue to do it.

I was interviewed on Brit+Co for multicultural wedding planning advice and featured again as one of 8 wedding blogs you need to know about.

BBC Asian Network

I went on the radio with Panjabi Hit Squad to discuss weddings and families! I was so nervous!

Wedding Blog Awards

For the second year in a row, I was nominated for an award! This year was for Best Big Day Inspiration Blog. I knew I wouldn’t win because I was in a category with some amazing bloggers. However I did have an awesome time catching up with everyone and attending the awards at Tower of London.

Sim and Sam’s wedding

Where do I even begin with the amazing outcome from this wedding? Sim and Sam’s wedding story was featured on the blog with photography from Sorriso Weddings and Portraits. The heartbreak that this couple had to go through meant that their story was shared with so many others. Once their wedding story was featured, meant that this opened the doors for reporters to share the story too. Companies such as Grazia UK, BBC Radio 4, ITV News Central, in addition to other blogs, facebook posts and so on. It also meant there was a huge rise in the divide between agreeing and disagreeing with Interfaith Sikh weddings in the Gurdwara. British Sikh Fusion wedding

Multicultural and fusion weddings

As always I have the opportunity to feature so many multicultural, fusion and interfaith weddings. The advice from each couple featured on the blog, allows others planning their big day, to gain inspiration or hope from newly married couples.

Thank you again to everyone who submits their work, wedding, engagement shoot, story, styled shoot and more to the blog. I love sharing your work and can’t wait to share more this year!

All my love

Raj xoxo
